I've Never Been To Therapy Before, What Should I Know and Do?

First and foremost, congrats on taking the first step and Welcome to therapy! Making the first move isn't always easy and it comes with a lot of apprehension not knowing what to expect along with the stigma behind receiving therapeutic services. Many times, clients walk away with a positive experience and not what they expected.

In the first session, it is all about information gathering where the client prepares to be engaged in the session by providing information about their life regarding why and what they hope to gain out of seeking therapy to help the therapist get on the same page as you. The first few sessions are important in building a strong rapport as the therapist is someone you will be sharing details of your life with; so, you want to be comfortable and don't be afraid to ask questions.

What Is Your Therapeutic Approach?

Along with my authentic personality of being chill, relatable, comedic, empathetic and understanding, I would describe my therapeutic approach as "eclectic", which means I use a variety of approaches such as Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client-Centered/Focused, Mindfulness and more. In sessions you will find me to be solution focused, I love to find solutions to problems being experienced. Sessions will focus on thoughts and behaviors that no longer serve who you desire to be and the goals that you want to achieve as well as reframe thoughts and or perspectives that are presenting as barriers in your life. We will work together to adopt new behaviors, learn new coping skills and understand the root of past issues.

What if You Don't Accept My Insurance?

Let's Talk Mental Health Counseling offers a sliding scale for clients who have a financial need to help alleviate the cost of sessions and make it more affordable. I try my best to work with the needs of all of my clients and understand the economic struggles of this time. If you would like to begin therapy, but cannot afford to pay the regular rate, please contact us and ask about the sliding scale.

What if I Can't Make It or I'm Running Late?

Cancellations can and are to be made at least 24hrs before your scheduled appointment. As courtesy and respect for your therapist's time, be sure to cancel your appointment as soon as you know that you will not be able to make it. If you cancel your appointment with less than 24hours notice, then please understand that there will be a late cancellation fee. If you fail to attend your appointment altogether without notice, then a no-show fee will be charged.

If you are more than 15 minutes late for your session with no notice, you may be assessed a no-show or a late cancel. I try my best to be flexible and understand that things happen or come up but please be mindful of the therapists' time and let them know as soon as possible.

There are no exceptions, if you are not able to attend your appointment, please let your therapist know right away via phone, text, or email. All late cancellations and no-show fees will be at the expense of the client as the insurance will not be billed or held responsible.

Please see the Service/Rates & Insurance section for more information.
